SUMMARY

Unicaradio is the student web radio of the University of Cagliari, which collaborates closely with the Communication Sciences degree course. Established in December 2018, Unicaradio aims to provide a platform for students to engage in broadcasting and journalism, offering practical experience and fostering a connection with the university community. The station was recognized as the best Italian university broadcaster in 2020 and is available on platforms like Spotify. Unicaradio primarily targets university students, particularly those studying Communication Sciences and related fields. The broader audience includes university staff, local community members, and anyone interested in university-related news and events.

OBJECTIVES

The primary goals of Unicaradio include:

  • Offering students hands-on experience in broadcasting and journalism.

  • Serving as a communication bridge within the university and the broader community.

  • Promoting university events, scientific research, and cultural initiatives.

IMPLEMENTATION: ACTIVITIES AND METHODOLOGIES

The main activities of Unicaradio include:

  • Broadcasting live and recorded content, including news, music, and cultural programs.

  • Covering significant university events such as the European Researchers’ Night, Ateneika sports festival, and Erasmus projects.
    Providing training and internship opportunities for students in journalism, communication, and media production.

These activities not only enhance students’ educational experiences but also help integrate the university with the local community, showcasing innovation and cultural vibrancy. Unicaradio employs a variety of innovative methodologies to engage its audience. It combines traditional radio broadcasting with modern digital platforms, including a dedicated app and social media channels. The project encourages active participation through workshops, interviews, and collaborative content creation, making use of multimedia content like podcasts and videos.

This blend of old and new media formats ensures broad accessibility and engagement among the youth. The resources encompass financial, human, and technical aspects.

PROJECT OUTCOMES & LESSONS LEARNED

Thanks to the involvement in the Unicaradio many young people have gained skills in broadcasting, journalism, and digital media. Had the occasion to collaborate and socialise with youngsters and be part of a peer to peer learning environment.
