Play2Do
GENERAL INFORMATION
A Simulated Training Framework for Skills Development addressing students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their trainers
Location: EU
SUMMARY
The Play2Do project aims to provide a simulated training framework to help educators develop skills for working with students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The project developed a 3D simulated school environment with various game scenarios designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
OBJECTIVES
The main objectives are:
- To provide guidelines for identifying and implementing best practices using the Play2Do 3D game and accompanying materials.
- To demonstrate the potential of the simulation practice learning to innovate within the target domain settings.
- To collect and analyze data on best practice cases to draw conclusions about the efficiency and sustainability of the proposed framework.
CONTEXT AND BACKGROUND
The Play2Do project was developed in response to the need for innovative and practical training solutions for educators working with students with special educational needs (SEN). The project involved multiple partners and stakeholders across Europe and was based on thorough research and collaboration with educators, psychologists, and other experts.
IMPLEMENTATION: ACTIVITIES AND METHODOLOGIES
The project utilized a combination of face-to-face and online training formats, incorporating the Play2Do 3D game scenarios. Various methodologies such as semi-structured interviews, self-reflection sheets, and participant observation were employed to collect data and feedback. The game scenarios provided realistic and practical training environments for educators to develop their skills.
PROJECT OUTCOMES & LESSONS LEARNED
Eight best practice cases were identified and documented, highlighting the applicability and potential of the Play2Do simulation framework. The project demonstrated that game-based learning can effectively enhance communication and collaboration among educators, improve their skills in dealing with SEN students, and promote inclusive education practices.
IMPACT
The Play2Do project had a significant impact on the participating educators, who reported increased confidence and competence in working with SEN students. The project also contributed to the broader educational community by providing a replicable model for simulation-based teacher training.
